Emeritus Prof. Patrick Parkinson is available for consultancy work concerning issues of family law and child protection. He is often asked to provide expert reports in a range of historic child protection matters when plaintiffs are seeking compensation for harms done to them many years ago. Issues include:
- What were the standards for child protection in an organisation at the time the plaintiff was abused?
- What screening processes, if any, might have been expected at that time?
- What training, if any, concerning the risk of child abuse could the organisation have been expected to provde its staff at that time?
- How much was known about the prevalence of child sexual abuse at the time?
Emeritus Prof. Parkinson also provides expert reports in cases where adult plaintiffs allege negligence by state or territory child protection authorities who either failed to intervene at all, took too long to intervene, or placed the child in foster care or residential care where they suffered abuse.
